Thanks to Congressman David Obey for voting to override President George Bush's veto of the State Children's Health Insurance Program.

Unfortunately, there were not enough votes in the House to stop President Bush -- who once told us he was a "compassionate conservative" -- from blocking check-ups and immunizations for 10 million children whose families cannot afford health insurance.

As a grandparent, nothing matters to me more than seeing kids grow up healthy. People my age know it is penny-wise and pound-foolish to cut corners with your health. When families in Wisconsin said they needed help, Congressman Obey was there for them. It's too bad others in Washington were not.
