Last Wednesday, the Solon Archery Club held an informational meeting at the Solon Community Center. The meeting had been advertised with flyers distributed around the Village and Town in addition to phone calls. There was a concerted effort made to call all the people who had signed a previously circulated petition in opposition to the proposed archery range.

I would like to applaud the Solon Archery Club in their effort to provide an opportunity for neighbors and community members to share their concerns.

The club presented a brief history, which included past membership and activities held. The issues of safety were addressed and discussed, with constructive ideas flowing both ways.

The club shared current plans and future hopes.

For those who attended, there was opportunity for questions to be answered and misconceptions clarified. There was positive discussion and ideas shared on both sides. I think it would be fair to say that all who were present felt better informed after the discussion.

It was great to see three of the 19 people who had signed the petition at the meeting. It would have been even better to have all 19 present. It was an opportunity missed for honest communication and productive problem solving. Again, thanks to the Solon Archery Club for providing the opportunity to learn the facts.
