A lengthy standoff at a Superior residence ended peacefully Saturday, with a man who reportedly was armed and suicidal taken into custody. No one was injured.
The Superior Police Department reported that officers responded to a domestic altercation in the 1700 block of Hughitt Avenue just after 7 a.m. Neighbors who reported the incident said one of the people involved in the altercation had a gun.
Officers located a 23-year-old man in the alley, where he reportedly had damaged a vehicle. The first officer to arrive heard what appeared to be gunshots, authorities said.
The suspect fled into his residence and a perimeter was established around the building; a block of Hughitt Avenue was closed to traffic. Two Superior police officers who are negotiators were able to establish contact with the man. Authorities said the man told officers he had a gun and brandished a knife, and pleaded with officers to kill him.
The Superior Police Department's Emergency Response Team was called to the scene, bringing body armor and other tactical equipment.

Officers eventually were able to locate the suspect in a crawl space, police said, and he was taken into custody without further incident at about 12:45 p.m.
