News flashed across the world that Japan had surrendered. When word hit the radio in Superior shortly after 6 p.m. on Aug. 14, 1945, that World War II was over, people poured out into the streets in a spontaneous parade. They were led by an accordion player and a guitarist as they marched down Tower Avenue.

Radio Superior features the end of the war in three episodes Friday beginning at 5:30 p.m. on Wisconsin Public Radio station KUWS-FM (91.3).

Actors from Renegade Comedy Theater and UW-Superior re-create that moment in history, featuring Helmi Harrington of the Harrington Arts Center on accordion and Sue Spence playing the guitar while people celebrate.

Hosted by Jack McKenna and Lew Martin, Radio Superior airs at 5:30 p.m. every Friday on KUWS-FM.
