University of Wisconsin-Superior junior Matt Kramer finished in seventh place in the 800 meters at the NCAA Division III Outdoor National Track & Field Championships, earning him All-American Honors.
Kramer led most of the race in a monsoon-like downpour, only to be passed on the final homestretch by a closely bunched pack.
Jimmy O'Brien of Ohio Northern captured first-place honors with only 1.06 seconds separating places 1-7, and .04 seconds was the fractional difference between places 5-7.
Kramer advanced to the finals of the 800 by placing second in his preliminary heat with a time of 1:51.35.
That time broke his previous school record of 1:51.89, which he set in the preliminaries at the 2006 NCAA Outdoor National Championships.
