Joseph Henry Khalar, 84, Highland, passed away Sunday, Feb. 3, 2008, at his home.
Joseph was born June 16, 1923, in Lake Nebagamon to the late William and Patricia (Downey) Khalar.
Joseph married June Beverly Babb May 23, 1946, and they enjoyed 43 years of marriage.
She preceded him in death on July 31, 1989.
Joe served his country in the U.S. Army BTRY 1549 AAA AUTO WPNS in World War II. He received the Victory Medal, American Theater Ribbon, and European African Middle Eastern Theater Ribbon with three Bronze Battle Stars, two Overseas Service Bars and a Good Conduct Medal.
Among those who survive and gratefully shared his life are his two children, Richard (Renee) Khalar of Austin, Texas and Beverly (Tim) Fairbanks, Papillion, Neb.; six grandchildren, Peter (Michelle) Khalar, Mathew (Pam) Khalar, Christopher Khalar, Tricia (Philip) Rieck, Christine Fairbanks and Cathleen Fairbanks; four great-grandchildren, James Khalar, and Connor, Ethan and Brennan Rieck; two sisters, Alice Wincek and Martha O'Brien; two brothers, Clarence and Lawrence Khalar; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by eight brothers, Albert, Robert, Floyd, Eugene, Fredrick, Steven, Thomas and Arthur Khalar; and one sister, Clara Khalar.
Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Friday at the Brown Funeral Home in Solon Springs, where visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Thursday. The Rev. James Kinney will officiate.
Burial will be in the Highland Memorial Cemetery in Highland. Military rites will be accorded by the Bong Hofsted Post 409 American Legion-Poplar.
