Joan M. Salmi, 75, longtime Superior area resident, died Monday, May 28, 2007, at St. Mary's Medical Center, Duluth.

She was born in Superior Nov. 13, 1931, the daughter of Floyd M. and Stenette O. (Flemmen) Mohr.

Joan grew up in Duluth and attended Duluth schools, graduating from Denfeld High School in 1950. She worked for St. Mary's Hospital in Duluth.

Joan was married to Hugo Salmi on May 28, 1955, at Concordia Lutheran Church in Superior and had celebrated 52 years of marriage.

She was a member of Pilgrim Lutheran Church; past president of the Lincoln School PTA; a member of the Onaway Club; she volunteered at the Fairlawn Mansion; and a member of the Good News Bible Study. Joan enjoyed working with ceramics all her life.

She is survived by her husband, Hugo Salmi, Superior; one daughter, Wendy Salmi, Superior; one son, Earl Salmi, Superior; three sisters, Aurielette Rowell, Farmington, Minn., Joyce (Daniel) Jezierski, Duluth and Kay (John) Olson, Duluth; two brothers, David (Bonnie) Mohr, Superior and Gary (Sally) Mohr, Duluth; and many nieces and nephews.

Joan was preceded in death by her parents, Floyd M. and Stenette O. Mohr.

Visitation begins after 9:30 a.m. Saturday at Pilgrim Lutheran Church in Superior and continues until the 11 a.m. memorial service with Pastor William Wilson officiating.

Burial will be at Riverside Cemetery, Superior.

Should friends desire, memorial may be made to the Challenge Center in Superior or Pilgrim Lutheran Church, Superior. The Downs-LeSage Funeral Home, 1304 Hammond Ave., Superior, is assisting the family with arrangements.
