Jessie V. Granberg, 84, lifelong area resident died Friday, May 18, 2007, at St. Francis Home in the Park, Superior.

She was born in Wentworth on Nov. 17, 1922, the daughter of Ignace and Antonina (Kowalczyk) Balcer.

Jessie was raised in the Wentworth area and graduated from the former Central High School in 1940.

She attended Bartley Business School and was then employed by Prudential Insurance Co., in Superior until her marriage to Orvar Granberg in 1949. Orvar passed away in 1987 after 38 years of marriage.

She was a self-taught accomplished accordionist who played in dance bands for many years.

Jessie was a member of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church; the former St. Adalberts Catholic Church and its Alter Society; the former East-End Senior Center; Thaddeus Kosciuszko Society Ladies Auxiliary; and the former Superior Musicians Union.

Jessie is survived by three sons, Gary Granberg, Superior; Lynn (Linda) Granberg, Superior and Alan Granberg; Oklahoma City, Okla.; three grandchildren, Aaron (Roberta) Granberg, Kelly Granberg, and Gregory Anderson; one great-grandson, Tyler Anderson; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband Orvar Granberg; her parents, Ignace and Antonina Balcer; five sisters, Helen Youngberg, Frances Laski, Agnes Hizinski, Clara Ronchi and Michalina Balcer; three brothers, Walter, Stanley and Joseph Balcer.

Visitation will begin after 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church. Superior and continue until the 11 a.m. Mass of Christian burial with the Rev. Ronald Olson as Celebrant.

Burial will be at Graceland cemetery.

Pallbearers for the service will be Aaron Granberg, Joseph Hizinski, Richard Balcer, John Ronchi, Jr., Charles Larson, and Robert Ronchi.

The Downs-LeSage Funeral Home, 1304 Hammond Ave., Superior is assisting the family with arrangements.
