Metro Credit Union CEO Fran James announced her retirement, effective the end of May.
James has served in her current position since June 2011. Prior to that, she was Metro's vice president of lending for the preceding two years.
"Metro has benefited greatly from Fran's mature leadership during the months leading up to this, our Diamond Jubilee Year," said Metro Board Chairman Pete Moran. "As CEO, Fran was invaluable in structuring our recently announced merger agreement with Hermantown Federal Credit Union. Prior to that, Fran served with distinction as our vice president of lending, bringing innovative loan products and services to our membership. We have, indeed, been fortunate to have her on our Metro Team and wish her well in her new life-venture."
James came to Metro from the First Superior Credit Union Service Center, where she serves as its manager for 17 years.
"My time at Metro has been the capstone to a highly rewarding career in the financial cooperative field," James said. "While I will miss my regular contact with the Metro Family, I am looking forward to the rewards and challenges of this next chapter of my life."

Fran is a life-long resident of Superior, where two of her three children, Cary (Jolene) James and Amy Bosteder, reside. Her son, Rusty, lives in Nome, Alaska.
Prior to Fran's tenure at First Superior Credit Union Service Center, she was a member of the Superior Community Credit Union's Audit Committee and served for more than 20 years as a bookkeeper with Gambles in Superior. In the community, Fran was the treasurer of the New Hope Presbyterian Church for 10 years and has been the treasurer for Pioneer Parish for the past seven years.
Further, Fran is an active 21-year member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, a community service organization.
A farewell celebration for Fran will be held at Metro during lobby hours May 25. Refreshments served and the whole community is welcome.
