The man whose body was found in Lake Superior near Dutchman's Creek Monday evening has been identified as Monty M. Lyons, 42, of Duluth.

Authorities responded to the Dutchman's Creek area near Wisconsin Point at 4:57 p.m. Monday after a body was reported in the water, according to a press release by Douglas County Sheriff Tom Dalbec. Lyons was located in the water near shore. Medical responders determined he was deceased.

Foul play is not believed to be part of the incident. An autopsy was scheduled for Tuesday, but the results are not expected for two to three days.

Lyons had been swimming with a group of friends in Lake Superior when they lost sight of him, according to Lt. Gerald Moe of the Douglas County Sheriff's Department. The Duluth man had spoken to somebody within an hour of his body being found.

A death investigation is ongoing through the Douglas County Sheriff's and Douglas County Medical Examiner's offices.
