Hurricanes blow past Spartan girls

The Superior High School girls hockey team is still looking for its first win of the season after falling to Hayward, 12-2 Tuesday night.

The Hurricanes set the tone of the game in the first period, taking a 5-0 lead. Hayward added two more goals in the second period and another in the third before the Spartans finally broke onto the board.

Alayna Moe scored the goal for Superior at 2:42 into the third period to make it 8-1 in favor of Hayward. Assisting on the goal was Jenna Martin.

Less than five minutes later, Martin and Moe teamed up again, this time with Martin scoring the goal and Moe earning the assist. It was 11-2 at the point, and Hayward added one more goal as the period drew to a close to make it 12-2.

Hannah Turnbull scored four goals to lead Hayward, and Alyssa Ahlgren added three of her own. Ahlgren also had four assists.

Megan Mullens finished with 25 saves in goal for the Spartans. Hayward's Nikki Dey faced just 11 shots.
