Hunger Takes No Holiday III is well underway, and through the generosity of a lot of people, we have received donations for approximately $5,000 so far. Concordia Lutheran Church hosted a mystery dinner. Grizzly's donation of 15 percent of food sales and 100 percent of wait staff tips, a $400 donation from the Jaycee's, cash collection boxes at SHS and UWS hockey and basketball games, and donations from some businesses and private citizens have us on our way to our goal of $25,000.
By reaching our goal, Second Harvest Food Bank will provide $250,000 worth of food -- 125,000 meals -- to Superior and Douglas County residents. This is a great investment for a few dollars. In our area, helping others in need is one of the characteristics that makes me most proud.
March has been proclaimed Hunger Takes No Holiday Awareness month by the city of Superior and Douglas County. We are extremely honored by this action.

On March 17, St. Patrick's Day, O'Neill's Pub holds a fun run of one mile along the frontage road behind their establishment. An entrance fee of $10 is asked with all proceeds going to Hunger Takes No Holiday. Registration begins at 7:30 a.m., the run is at 8 a.m., and then everyone is Irish and can enjoy your favorite beverage along with great food -- another win-win situation, thanks to Tom and Nancy O'Neill.
