Superior will be well represented when the 23rd annual Chicago Showcase begins today and runs through Sunday at the Bensenville Edge Ice Arenas in Bensenville, Ill.

Thirty-four teams from across the United States will participate in the high school hockey festival, including two teams from Wisconsin.

Team Wisconsin Red, which will compete in the "A Pool," includes Superior Spartans' Brian Pierpont and Sean Graskey. Team Wisconsin Red opens against Team Minnesota at 7 p.m. Wednesday.

Team Wisconsin White not only includes the Spartans' Nate Hendry, but the team is coached by Superior's Sean Storie and Chris Sislo. The White team will compete in the "C Pool" and opens against Team Kentucky/West Virginia at 9 a.m. Wednesday.

All three Spartan players were seniors on this year's team, which finished second at the WIAA state tournament.

It's the first time in several years Wisconsin will send two teams to the Showcase. The opening came when a team dropped out of the event.

"This is an excellent opportunity for an extra 20 players to get noticed in Chicago," Team Wisconsin Red coach Mike Caluori said of the dual team concept.

The teams will play three "qualifying games" on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. The best teams will advance to the bracket round on Saturday.

Also a member of the Red team is Hayward goaltender Alan Armour.
