HOCKEY: Smith, O'Neill to play in USA 17 Festival

Two hockey players with ties to Superior have been selected to participate in the USA Hockey, Advanced 17 National Festival (National Player Development Camp), which will be held July 7-13 in St. Cloud, Minn.

Two hockey players with ties to Superior have been selected to participate in the USA Hockey, Advanced 17 National Festival (National Player Development Camp), which will be held July 7-13 in St. Cloud, Minn.

Tim Smith, a member of the Superior High School Spartans hockey team, and John O'Neill of Anoka (Minn.) High School have been chosen to play for the Central District.

The Central District area, is made up of Wisconsin, Illinois, Missouri, Kansas, Nebraska and Iowa.

O'Neill, a junior center, led Anoka in scoring for the second straight year, with 25 goals and 25 assists.

Smith, a junior defenseman, led Superior to the Wisconsin State High School Hockey Tournament.

Smith is the son of Lyndon and Vickie Smith. O'Neill is the son of former Spartan hockey player Brett O'Neill (1977).
