Historical murals feature in Iron River

The Iron River Lions Club commissioned a mural depicting the Steckbauer Block in Iron River as it appeared in the 1950s.

The building was one of the earliest brick buildings in Iron River and housed two banks, two drug stores, an appliance store, the U.S. Post Office, a doctor's office and the Iron River Pioneer. The second floor had an attorney's office and the Iron River telephone central office in addition to several apartments.

The work will be installed on the north side of Uncle Bob's Bowling Lanes on of Main Street and Highway 2. The mural will be painted by artists Kelly Meredith and Susan Prentice Martinsen.
