Historian discusses native history of Apostle Islands

For generations, Ojibwe people have inhabited Madeline Island, the Apostle Island and Chequamegon Bay area. They migrated from the east centuries ago, bringing their culture and traditions with them, and today, Red Cliff and Bad River Bands of Lake Superior Chippewa carry on this rich heritage.

On Monday join Red Cliff tribal historian Rob Goslin as he discusses the history and traditions of Ojibwe people in the Apostle Islands region. Goslin, a member of the Red Cliff Band of Lake Superior Chippewa, has a masters degree in education administration from the University of Kansas. He has worked in the Red Cliff/Bayfield community for more than 20 years.

The presentation features demonstrations of traditional singing and dancing.

This is the final presentation in the National Lakeshore's summer guest lecture series, sponsored by the Friends of the Apostle Islands and are offered free to the public.

The program starts at 7:30 p.m. in the auditorium of Apostle Islands National Lakeshore headquarters visitor center, in Bayfield's Old County Courthouse on Washington Avenue between Fourth and Fifth streets. Seating for 60 is available on a first-come first-served basis.
