Hellen Kervina, 86, of 1001 Clough Ave., Superior, died Tuesday, May 8, 2007. The youngest of 10 children, she was born in Rock Creek, Minn., Jan. 24, 1921, to John and Barbara Sherwood.
She married Alanson Noyes on Nov. 7, 1937, and was blessed with five children, Rayola LaBarge of Hibbing, Minn., Loren (Mary Sue) Noyes of Gadsden, Ala., Darwin Noyes of Oakdale, Minn., Dale Noyes of Salem, Wis. and Terry (Mary) Noyes of Superior; and two step-sons, Roland and Russell Noyes.
On April 7, 1966, she married Robert Kervina in Pine City, Minn. After working for many years as a cook at the former Saratoga Cafe and then later at the former Chef's Restaurant, she changed her career to her exceptional talent, her love of knitting, crocheting, sewing and crafting. She created beautiful items for her family, friends and for many other people.
She is lovingly remembered by her five children; 15 grandchildren, Susan (John) Pogue, Cheryl (Dennis) Reefman, Thomas, Randy (Kim), James, Patrick and Brian LaBarge, Jamie (Sally), Michele, Jilleen, Darin (Karen), Dale Alan and Robert (Melissa) Noyes, Anita (Todd) Treakle and Karen (Michael) Nevin; 27 great-grandchildren; six step-grandchildren; four step-great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews and many friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, seven sisters, two brothers, her husband, Robert Kervina, two grandchildren, one great-grandchild, a son-in-law, William LaBarge, daughters-in-law, Linda and Joanne Noyes and a step-son, Russell Noyes.

The family extends a special thank you to the staff at Stardusk House for their exceptional care of their dear mother during her recent illness and also to Pastor Bob Baranow for his kindness and support.
Visitation will be Sunday beginning at 5 p.m. in Downs Funeral Home, on the corner of Ogden Avenue and North 19th Street. Her funeral service will be Monday in the funeral home at 11 a.m. with Pastor Bob Baranow officiating. The committal prayers will take place at Greenwood Cemetery.
