Helen Amelia Ritsche, 101, Superior, died Wednesday, Feb. 13, 2008, at the Villa-Marina Health and Rehabilitation Center.

She was born May 5, 1906, in Highbridge, to Ernest and Ella (Anderson) Strum and was a longtime Superior resident.

Helen had been employed as a housekeeper at the former Children's Home in Superior.

She was a member of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church.

Helen married Joseph Ritsche in 1928. They had two sons, Eugene in 1931 and David in 1936.

Helen is survived by eight grandchildren, Linda (Jeff) Sullivan, Green Bay, Janet (Bill) Gutekunst, Lumberton, N.C., Sharon (Eric) Gresley, Hibbing, Daniel (Mary) Ritsche, Madison, Sue (Chuck) DeGreeff, Elk River, Minn., Jean (Ed) Abrahamzon, Superior, David (Lynda) Ritsche, South Range and Mark (Karen) Ritsche, Maplewood, Minn.; 19 great-grandchildren, Joey (Bethnie), Robin, Sara, Eric, Ryan, Kirstin, Angela, Rob, Davy (Ashley), Jon, Erik, Jason, Nick, Kelli, Kevin (Kate), Keith, Kerri, Jessica and Alex; four great-great-grandchildren; one sister, Nina Horyza, Denver, Colo.; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by two sons, Eugene and David Ritsche; her husband, Joseph; one brother, Ernest Strum; three sisters, Laura, Irma and Jenny.

Visitation will be at 12:30 p.m. until the 1:30 p.m. Saturday Mass of Christian burial in St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church with the Rev. James Tobolski as celebrant.

Burial will be in St. Francis Cemetery.

Pallbearers for the service will be Helen's great-grandsons, Kevin, Keith, Erik, Jason, Nick, Rob, David, Jon, Alex, Ryan, Joey and Eric.

Lenroot-Maetzold Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
