The weekend’s heat led to a number of calls for medical assistance in Superior, including a call for two teenagers suffering from dehydration at the Kwik Trip in Superior’s South End neighborhood.
“We had five calls over the weekend that were likely attributed to heat,” Battalion Chief Howard Huber said.
The victims ranged from teens to the elderly, as well as people in their late 20s and early 30s. Their symptoms included dizziness, headache and fainting.
Huber encouraged residents to stay hydrated and stay cool, even if that means traveling to a place with air conditioning. He said it’s best not to drink a lot of alcohol in the heat.
Heat is the No. 1 weather-related killer in the state, according to Wisconsin Emergency Management. Most recently, 11 Wisconsin residents suffered heat-related deaths in 2013.
