A variety of clinics and services are offered by the Douglas County Department of Health and Human Services. Among these are:

Immunization clinic

An immunization clinic is usually held the first Wednesday of the month, from 1 to 4 p.m., but in July, since the July 4 holiday falls on that day, the clinic is being rescheduled for Tuesday, July 3 from 1 to 4 p.m. Bring your immunization records with you. Vaccines are given free to children who don't have health insurance. Parent or guardian must be present to sign the authorization.

Health screening programs on Tuesdays and Wednesdays for children birth through 21 years of age. The screenings are designed to help families whose children have difficulty getting health screening due to a lack of insurance, finances, or are on Medical Assistance. The screenings provide nutritional, physical, laboratory, hearing, vision, immunizations and developmental assessments. If health problems are identified, appropriate referrals can be made. Free blood lead testing is also available for children.

Prenatal care

A public health nurse is available by appointment to help pregnant women get the support, information, and services they need to have a healthy baby. In home or office visits can be arranged.

New baby visits

Parents can request a public health nurse to visit them and their baby at home. The nurse can provide newborn and postpartum assessments, infant care education and community resource, information and referral.

Mantouxs (TB skin test)

Skin tests offered on Mondays and Wednesdays for a nominal fee.

Alzheimer's Family and

Caregiver Support Program

Some financial assistance with caring for persons with Alzheimer's disease or other dementias in their homes. Appointment required.

AIDS/HIV testing

and counseling

Anonymous, confidential counseling and testing for HIV, by appointment. Services include pre-test counseling, laboratory services, post-test counseling and education. Clients will be identified by number only for anonymous (no name) testing. Fees are based on a sliding fee scale. No one will be denied services due to an inability to pay.

An STD clinic for males. Services include by appointment, diagnosis, treatment, follow-up testing and education. There is a nominal charge for medication.

Wisconsin Well

Woman Program

Free mammogram and Pap test for eligible women, ages 45 to 64 years.
