Twenty members of Douglas County HCE attended the 2009 Wisconsin Association for Home and Community Education State Conference at Barker's Island Inn in Superior from Sept 14-16.

HCE is a nonprofit organization that partners with UW-Extension Family Living Programs, at both the state and county level, to bring quality educational programming to its members and communities.

"Experience HCE's Northern Lights" was the theme of this year's conference. On the 14th, attendees were able to experience the Northwoods by choosing from several optional tours, including trips to nearby Bayfield, a visit to the coffee pot-shaped Davis Windmill, stops at several area wineries and a cruise on the Vista Queen. Karen Halbersleben, president of Northland College in Ashland, kicked off the Conference that evening with her keynote address, "Lighting the Way Women Working to Make a Difference in their Worlds."

The remaining days of the conference were filled with workshops pertaining to the organization or of general interest, entertainment, awards presentations and opportunities for networking with HCE members from all parts of Wisconsin.
