The 1998 Great Lakes Gulls AAA hockey team finished its summer with back-to-back championships. The Gulls won the Miken Cup going 4-0 by beating the St. Cloud Grizzlies, Ice Edge Bears, Ice Edge Bandits and the Miracle Black in the championships game.

The following weekend the squad won the Easton End of Summer Classic going 6-0 with wins over Bauer Vapor, 98 Hi Mark, CCM Capitals, Capital City Comets, Shock Doctor and again defeating 98 Hi Mark in a dramatic overtime championship game.

"I can't say enough about these players, and how far they have come over the last two summers," coach Josh Pettit said. "We started as a team of kids that didn't have any AAA experience and their hard work and true grit has made them into a true AAA hockey team.

"All of these kids work so hard at practice, with a small chip on their shoulder and something to prove. Their hard work has truly paid off with a couple of big trophies to prove it, and we're already excited thinking about what will come next summer. This hockey team has truly shifted into a small family over two summers. It's great to be a part of it."

Team members include: Dylan Langenbrunner, Dylan Johnson, Reid Davidson, Robbie Dobczak and Casey Gobel, Cloquet; Shane Tetzlaff, Sadey Laurvick and Christian Pettis, Superior; Tyler Pedersen, Proctor; Derek O'Brien, Trevor Johnson, Logan Judnick, Ivan Kovala, Kevin Harris and Matthew Valure, Hermantown; Conner Johnson, Alex Robb and Aaron Johnson, Duluth East; and Terell Bolz, Ashland.
