The Northwood High School boys basketball team suffered a pair of losses last week, falling to Drummond Thursday, 61-50, and state-ranked Clayton Jan. 20, 58-33.

Northwood now holds an overall record of 5-5 and is 4-3 in the Central Lakeland Conference.

"This one was a close game until Drummond caught fire in the third quarter," said Paul Vaara, head coach of the Evergreens. "Drummond's inside scoring from Paul Walters and Brian Best was too much; they scored 17 points each."

Both teams scored 13 points in the opening quarter, and Drummond took a 26-23 lead after the first half. In the third quarter, the Evergreens fell behind as Drummond held a 21-13 scoring advantage.

The Evergreens matched Drummond's scoring again in the fourth quarter but couldn't narrow the gap and lost 61-50.
