Great Lakes Pipe wins ninth straight playoff title

The Superior Over 35 Softball League wrapped up its season with Great Lakes Pipe/Kivi Trucking/Shamrock Pizza winning the upper division playoff championship and Anchor Bar winning the lower division.

The Superior Over 35 Softball League wrapped up its season with Great Lakes Pipe/Kivi Trucking/Shamrock Pizza winning the upper division playoff championship and Anchor Bar winning the lower division.

GLP/KT/SP won three straight games to win its ninth straight playoff championship. The Pipemen also went undefeated during the regular season to finish a perfect 15-0.

The last team to dethrone the perennial champs was Locker Room/VIP Pizza, which won the 2000 playoff championship.

GLP defeated Village Lanes 9-8 with Mike Luzaich's two-run double in the bottom of the seventh inning, completing the come-from-behind victory.

Other top hitters on the day for the champs were Steve Anderson and Andy Sislo. Junior Anderson was the winning pitcher. Remaining team members are Eric King, Randy Gunderson, Ken Mertz, Gene Barker, David Lundquist, Ray Kosey, Steve Fregin, Al Wigfall, Jim Ross, Chad Johnson, Corky Rindal, Rick Kennelly and Dave Sigfrids.

The Anchor Bar went 3-1 on its championship run. Its lone loss was to Striker's Bar, 11-10.

Anchor's wins were 11-10 over Temple Bar, 21-9 over O'Neill's Pub and 18-14 over Jimmy's Saloon.

Members of the Anchor Bar team are Dan Parkinson, Bruce Haroldson, Bill Gedde, Gary Dzikonski, Matt Wisted, Greg Mainella, Rick Kolanczyk, Dave Friborg, Mike Martin, Lee "Gramps" Guesrude and player/manager Jerry Lozon.

Jimmy's Saloon finished as runner-up behind Anchor Bar.

Other tournament scores were: Temple Bar 11, Strikers 10; Temple Bar 18, O'Neill's 12; O'Neill's 14, Jimmy's Saloon 6; Jimmy's Saloon 5, Strikers 4.
