Superior’s City Council held its first teleconference meeting April 9 to approve a pair of bids for the 2020 construction season.
The Council awarded the contract for sanitary sewer televising to Absolute Pipe for $25,994. As a condition of the city’s wastewater permit, the city is required to perform periodic inspections of the collection system to identify deficiencies so corrections can be made.
The contract covers televising about seven miles of the system from Belknap and North 28th streets between Hill Avenue and Marina Drive.
“My only concern in these times is … that we consider local,” said Councilor Dan Olson during his last meeting.
Great Lakes Pipe Service of Superior submitted a bid that was about $10,000 higher than Absolute Pipe. Councilors approved the lower bid by Absolute Pipe unanimously by roll call vote.
The Council awarded the sidewalk bid to Hovland Concrete, Masonry and Design for $496,116. This year the city plans to install a sidewalk along F Street and replace sidewalks in the South Superior, East End and University of Wisconsin-Superior neighborhoods. Furthermore, the city will conduct roadway concrete repair at the intersection of North 37th Street and Tower Avenue because of deterioration of the heavily used intersection.
