The Superior City Council adopted ordinance changes that forgive late fees on city utility bills for military members and other service personnel when their service makes paying the bill on time difficult.
The city charges a 1% fee for sewage, garbage and recycling and 1.5% on stormwater when payments are lagging.
Mayor Jim Paine, who served in the Marine Corps, advised the Finance Committee last month that deployment can throw people’s lives into disarray, prompting the committee to recommend the change.
The council unanimously approved the measure Tuesday, Dec. 17.
The change does not forgive the amount due for services provided.
The changes go into effect Friday, Dec. 27.
