Construction is getting underway this week to replace the force main at Lift Station No. 7 along East Second Street at 44th Avenue East in Superior.
Stack Brothers Mechanical Contractors was awarded the project, which will cost about $97,000.
The construction project includes replacing about 1,000 linear feet of line with an 8-inch, high-density polyethylene force main and replacing the existing manhole in the area of the unimproved 44th Avenue East. The existing force main, suspended from the bridge across Bluff Creek on East Second Street, will be removed.
The new force main will be installed by a trenchless method called directional drilling to minimize ground disturbance adjacent to East Second Street and will allow the new pipe to be installed under Bluff Creek.
The project may render streets and alleys in the area of 44th Avenue East to the area south of Bluff Creek temporarily impassable during the three-week project.
Sewer and other utility services aren't expected to be interrupted during the project.
