Some Superior residents received a surprise in the mail — two invoices for their quarterly sewage, stormwater, trash and recycling bill.

The good news is recipients only have to pay one of them, for the months of July, August and September.

The invoice for April, May and June was mailed to about 600 of the city’s 12,000 customers, said Shana Ross, utility bill technician with the city’s Environmental Services Division.

“It was just an error at the printer,” Ross said. “They accidentally pulled down one of the files from last quarter. They found the error right away, but they’d already mailed a few of them.”

People who received the incorrect invoice also received the correct statement.

“We’ve already talked to a big number of them,” Ross said. “People understandably want to know why they got two bills and we just explained to them what happened and gave them their current balance.”

Everyone actually got a correct bill, and a small number actually got a copy of their second quarter bill, Ross said.

She said people who mistakenly send more than one payment this quarter would likely have their payment returned city’s Finance Department if the balance owed of zero dollars.
