Superior’s park crew put the final touches on the first mile of the recreational trail that runs between Bear Creek Park and Wisconsin Point Road.
The first phase of the three-year project officially opened Friday, Oct. 18.
Work on the trail began with clearing the corridor in April and laying the gravel, said Michael Maruska, the trail foreman on the project. He said after taking a break from the project for a few weeks, work began on the boardwalks in September, he said.
The nonmotorized trail winds through the woods adjacent to the Osaugie Trail along Bear Creek, offering scenic vistas along the trail.
“I don’t know that I can describe it,” Mayor Jim Paine said. “You have to come out and see it. I can tell you that this is a beautiful trail through a unique forest that runs along Bear Creek with views of Allouez Bay and Lake Superior.”
