U.S. Rep. Sean Duffy, the Republican who represents northern Wisconsin in Congress, including all of Northwestern Wisconsin, announced Monday he will resign from office in September.

Duffy posted on his Facebook page Monday that he is resigning on Sept. 23 to spend more time with his family. Duffy posted that his ninth child, due to be born in October, has a heart condition and "will need even more love, time, and attention due to complications."

Duffy, 47, was first elected to Congress in 2010. The former cast member of MTV's "The Real World: Boston" says he needs a "break from public service" in order to support his family.

It's expected Democratic Gov. Tony Evers will have to call a special election to fill the vacancy.
