The Superior High School girls golf team opened its season by tying for first place in the Barron Scramble Thursday at Rolling Oaks Golf Course in Barron.

The Spartans tied for first place with St. Croix Falls with scores of 63s, 7-under par. Osseo-Fairchild was next at 66, followed by Spooner's 68 and Northwestern's 69.

Other highlights for the Spartans were by freshman Allison Gotelaere, who recorded a hole-in-one on the 133-yard third hole while using a 7-iron, and Anne Tracy, who had an eagle from 75 yards out.

"We played extremely well and we received contributions from all five golfers," SHS coach Dan Schulz said. "Shooting 63 and tying St. Croix Falls definitely exceeded my expectations. It was nice to see everyone contribute so many shots throughout the scramble.

"The hole-in-one came on Ally's first par 3 in varsity competition so I'm not sure what she has planned for an encore, but it was a fabulous start to her varsity career."
