A Gordon woman accused of driving drunk a fifth time waived a preliminary hearing Jan. 24 in Douglas County Circuit Court.
Susan Marie Krings, 55, faces felony fifth offense operating while intoxicated and misdemeanor operate motor vehicle while revoked. Cash bond was set at $1,500 for Krings and she was ordered not to use or possess alcohol. Her next court appearance is set for April 13.
According to the criminal complaint:
Authorities responded to a call the morning of Jan. 11 for a vehicle in the ditch along U.S. Highway 53 and Lynch Road in the town of Wascott. Krings was seated in the vehicle's driver's seat and the car was running. State Trooper Don Magdzas could smell an odor of intoxicants coming from inside the car, and Krings was slow to respond to questions. Her speech was extremely slurred and she was incoherent at times.
When asked why she was parked on the side of the road, she did not respond. When Magdzas asked if she was diabetic, Krings said yes and her blood sugar was low.

Krings had a result of 0.332 on a preliminary breath test and she was placed under arrest.
According to the complaint, Krings has three prior operating while intoxicated convictions and one conviction for operating with a prohibited alcohol concentration, all in Wisconsin.
The maximum penalty for the fifth offense operating while intoxicated is up to 10 years imprisonment and a $25,000 fine.
