George S. Sislo

George S. Sislo, 85, a longtime East End resident, died Sunday, April 29, 2007, in St. Mary's Hospital of Superior.

He was born Dec. 28, 1921, in Superior and was a lifelong resident. George was an Army veteran of WWII having served in the European Theatre and the Azores.

He was formerly employed by Erlanson's Lumber, Woodruff's, and at St. Francis Church and school. George retired from WITC as engineer supervisor in 1980 after 16 years of service.

After his retirement he was employed by Napa.

He was a member of St. Francis Catholic Church and the Disabled American Veterans.

He is survived by his wife, Lorraine, to whom he was married on June 19, 1948, in St Paul, Minn.; his sons, Paul Sislo of Schereville, Ind., and Pete (Jan) Sislo of Dotham, Ala.; three daughters, Pam Meyers of Lakewood Colo., Margaret Sislo of Superior and Teresa Sislo of Foxboro; 10 grandchildren; four sisters, Margaret Sislo of Minocqua, Florence Jensen of Superior, Leona White of Superior and Agnes Sislo of Minocqua; a brother, Gerald (Vernetta) Sislo of St. Germaine, Wis.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Victoria and Andrew Sislo, a grandson, Benjamin Charles Sislo, seven brothers and one sister.

A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church with the Rev. James Tobolski as celebrant. Burial will be in St. Francis Cemetery, where military rites will take place.

Visitation will be after 5 p.m. Thursday in the Downs Funeral Home on the corner of 19th Street and Ogden Avenue, where a Scripture service will take place at 7:30 p.m. Visitation resumes Friday in the church for one hour prior to Mass.

Pallbearers will be Kyle Galetka, Chris, Justin and Nikolaus Sislo, Corey Drake, Nathan Sampson, Jackson Olenski, Renata Sislo and Tom Campbell. Honorary pallbearers will be Perry Lindberg, Dale O'Brien, Pete Jarzomski and Red Michalski.

If friends so desire memorials can be made to St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church or to donor's choice.
