Superior Parks and Recreation Division has installed a fence around the popular Skate Park located at Heritage Park, 2828 Hammond Ave.

According to Mayor Bruce Hagen, the 8-foot fence and electronic gate will be operational starting today.

"After a portable toilet was burned to the ground last May, I determined the city would be formally closing the park every evening at 10 p.m. per local ordinance," said Hagen.

The main gate access to the Skate Park will now close electronically at 10 p.m. Further, the city has added motion detection lights inside the fenced area that will also activate at 10 p.m.

"Neighbors and skate park users met last month at a Neighborhood Meeting that I hosted on site," said Hagen. "We believe the new features at the park will assist us in encouraging respectful behavior."

An emergency exit is available to park users in the event they remain inside the fenced area after closure. However, the Superior Police Department will be monitoring the site at and after closure.
