Gas prices drop Thursday morning

Gas prices in Duluth dropped about 16 cents per gallon Wednesday to about $3.19 for unleaded regula, with Superior prices later dropping to about $3.24.

Gas prices in Duluth dropped about 16 cents per gallon Wednesday to about $3.19 for unleaded regula, with Superior prices later dropping to about $3.24.

"Our refineries always have a tough time in the spring as they switch from winter to summer fuels," Gail Weinholzer of AAA told the Duluth News Tribune. "The refineries are getting back up to the production level we need them to be at. This is increasing supply, and that is helping us bring the prices down."

Maintenance at several U.S. refineries, including the Murphy Oil Corp. plant in Mereaux, La., last week, also has cut supply and raised prices.

The nationwide average is $3.22, according to www.fuelgauge.com , a AAA Web page. In Wisconsin, the statewide average is $3.42, it said.
