A natural gas leak related to a faulty furnace Tuesday forced the closure of a segment of North 12th Street and the evacuation of about six mobile homes at Superior's Downtown Trailer Park, 409 N. 12th St.
A meter reader noticed the odor of natural gas and a meter spinning unusually fast just before 1 p.m. outside an administrative office at the park. Authorities responded by shutting off gas service to the building and cutting electrical power to the area. The owner and keyholder of the building was in Iron River, delaying access.
Neighbors were allowed back into their homes about 3 p.m. There was no property damage or any report of injury.
