Gardeners host annual state convention

The Indianhead District of Garden Clubs members are hosting the 2007 annual convention of the Wisconsin Garden Club Federation. The session will be held Monday-Wednesday at Barker's Island Inn in Superior and marks the 80th anniversary of the club.

The Indianhead District of Garden Clubs members are hosting the 2007 annual convention of the Wisconsin Garden Club Federation. The session will be held Monday-Wednesday at Barker's Island Inn in Superior and marks the 80th anniversary of the club.

The theme is "Our 80th Year -- Weaving WGCF's History."

President Carole Hopp of Wauwatosa presides over the convention. Barbara May of Boston, president of National Garden Clubs, Inc. will be an honored guest.

Many educational exhibits and commercial vendors will grace the hotel halls. Members will hear Paul Hlina speak on "Shoreline Restoration"; Debbie Waters will tell of Hawk Ridge migration; and Angela Stocke, area florist, presents a floral design program. A Wisconsin scholarship recipient, Michaela Molter, will speak on "Beyond the Books."

Workshops will be presented on peonies, 2007 perennials, and painting a flower pot to take home.

Dr. Donald Davidson, UW-Superior biology professor, receives the prestigious Bronze Award, presented to a nonmember who makes a contribution to his or her community.
