Garage sales money thefts being reported in Minot

MINOT, N.D. -- The Minot Police Department  has issued a warning to residents after several calls in recent weeks about thefts from rummage sales.

The most recent incident was on Sunday about 4 p.m. when two white males, both about 20 years old, want to a sale on 17th Avenue South West and took about $500 in cash from the cashbox and then got into a black SUV and drove away.

Police said the other incidents involved people entering the garage sales and either removed money from the cash box or took the entire box.

Police said residents should periodically secure excess cash and keep only the amount necessary to make change for customers. The incidents are under investigation.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Minot Police Department at 852-0111 or to Crime Stoppers at 852-7463. A reward of up to $1,000 may be given for information leading to an arrest.
