Frank "Elmer" Levanpa, 87, lifelong Superior area resident, died Tuesday, Aug. 12, 2008, in St. Luke's Hospital in Duluth.

He was born on Dec. 18, 1920, in Maple to Victor and Mary (Luostari) Levanpa.

He was employed as an ore handler for the Burlington Northern Railroad and was a member of the United Railway Workers Labor Union affiliated with the railroad.

Frank attended Pilgrim Lutheran Church.

He is survived by one sister, Lillian (Russell) Peterson, Brooklyn Park, Minn. and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters and two brothers.

Visitation will begin at 11 a.m. until the noon funeral service on Friday in the Pilgrim Lutheran Church with Pastor William Wilson, officiating. Burial will be in the Finnish Apostolic Lutheran Cemetery in Maple.

Lenroot-Maetzold Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
