Foundations offer grants for northern Wisconsin projects, programs

A regional nonprofit fund serving the Ashland, Bad River and Washburn areas announced grants totaling $8,000 for local projects.

The Chequamegon Bay Area Community Fund awarded grants to the following nonprofit organizations and units of local government for their projects:

  • Alliance for Sustainability, $1,000 for the ReSource ReUse expansion project.
  • Ashland County Health and Human Services Department, $1,000 for the ABC Diaper Bank.
  • Bayfield County Health Department, $1,000 for the Chequamegon Bay Car Seat Program.
  • City of Washburn, $500 for Jackie’s Field community playground.
  • Lake Superior Big Top Chautauqua, $1,250 for youth programming improvements.
  • Recreation and Fitness Resources, $1,250 for the North Coast Teen and Youth Sailing Program.
  • Washburn School District, $2,000 for RURBAN, a program uniting rural and urban students.

“We have a wonderful region and strong communities within our region,” said Brad Gingras, chairman of the advisory board for the Chequamegon Bay fund. “Because of the generosity of our donors, we are able to give back to our communities and region, making them stronger with these grants.”
Regional nonprofit funds serving the Bayfield, Madeline Island and Red Cliff communities announced grants totaling $52,500 for local projects.

The Apostle Islands Area Community Fund awarded grants to the following nonprofit organizations and unit of local government for their projects:

  • City of Bayfield, $2,500 for its Tree Board project.
  • CORE Community Resources Inc., $5,000 for an expansion project.
  • Lake Superior Big Top Chautauqua, $5,000 for youth programming improvements.
  • Lake Superior Tall Ships Inc., $5,000 for its Sailing for Community Building.
  • Madeline Island Chamber Music, $3,500 for community music engagement projects.
  • Madeline Island Community Gardening Project Inc., $5,000 to hire a seasonal intern.
  • Northland College, $5,000 to support continued participation in the Great Lakes Initiative.
  • Recreation and Fitness Resources, $5,000 for drop-in youth programming.

In addition, dedicated funds serving the region awarded grants to the following nonprofits for these projects:

  • Bayfield Heritage Association Inc., $3,000 from the West Wind Fund to support the Bayfield Old City Jail restoration.
  • La Pointe Center Inc., $3,000 from the Grutzner Madeline Island Fund to support the Positivity Children’s Theatre and $3,000 from the Michael Madeline Island Fund to support scholarships for the Positivity Children’s Theatre.
  • Recreation and Fitness Resources, $4,500 from the Grutzner Madeline Island Fund to support Madeline Island youth programs.
  • Red Cliff Band of Lake Superior Chippewa, $3,000 from the Red Cliff/Miskwaabikaang Fund to support the Red Cliff Cultural Youth Exchange.

“The gifts of our generous donors make these projects possible,” said Sue Headley Keller, chairperson of the advisory board for the Apostle Islands fund. “We’re pleased and honor their wishes to give
back to these communities and make them stronger by supporting such a wide variety of programs and good work.”
