SHELL LAKE, Wis. -- A former Polk County jail worker convicted of sexually assaulting female inmates is headed to prison.

Judge Eugene Harrington on Monday sentenced former Polk County Sheriff’s Department corrections officer Darryl Christensen to 60 years, 30 of which must be spent in prison. The remainder is to be served on extended supervision.

Christensen, of Amery, Wis., pleaded guilty in November 2015 to five counts of second-degree sexual assault by a correctional staff member.

The allegations were set forth in a criminal complaint that accused the 49-year-old of extensive sexual contact with women who were being held as inmates at the jail. The molestation, which the inmates reported included various forms of sexual contact, occurred over a three-year period beginning in August 2012.
