Happy summer, everyone. Summer solstice, the longest day of the year, was of course on Tuesday this year. The exact date of summer solstice shifts every year because the calendar doesn't exactly reflect the earth's rotation. It seems like a normal day for most of us, but it's a nice sign that summer is finally here. So ironically, let's enjoy the rainy weekend.
Two meetings of county government are scheduled for next week.
The Land and Development Committee meets at 3 p.m. Tuesday in Room 207C of the Douglas County Courthouse, 1313 Belknap St., Superior. The Superior Parks, Recreation and Forestry Department is requesting support from the committee for a recreational trail linking the Tri-County Corridor Osaugie Trail to Wisconsin Point Road between Moccasin Mike Road and Allouez Bay. The proposed 2.4 mile long, four-foot wide trail would consist of recycled crushed concrete provided by the city from the Belknap Street reconstruction project.
The Insurance Benefit Committee meets at 9:30 a.m. Thursday in Room 207C of the courthouse. The committee is attended by HealthPartners representatives and several county employees.
