A structure fire early Sunday morning in the town of Lakeside destroyed a trailer house and displaced the family living there. No injuries were reported.
Smoke detectors alerted the family to the fire, according to Lakeside Fire Chief Nova Nordrum, and they were able to make it out of the home with their dog.
“We thought they lost their cat,” Nordrum said. “However at the end of mop up the cat also was located alive, hiding under the deck.”
The fire at the home on South Wentworth Road was reported at 12:21 a.m., according to the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office. In addition to the Lakeside Volunteer Fire Department, firefighters from Amnicon, Maple and Parkland responded to the scene. The family is being assisted by the American Red Cross. Nordrum estimated at least $80,000 damage was done to the structure and its contents.
The cause of the fire has not yet been determined.
