Superior's fifth grade girls traveling basketball team went to Rice Lake last weekend and took third place.
Superior opened tournament action against Forest Lake and lost a close game 34-32. Foul trouble hampered Superior as two players out of their roster of seven fouled out. Jessica Lindstrom led Superior in scoring with 21 points, followed by Shannon Johnstad with six points, Ari Jago with three points and Taylor Nelson with two points.
In the second game, Superior played Stillwater and came away with a 29-15 win. Lindstrom had 10 points, Johnstad had six points and Emily Hansen had five points to lead Superior. Whitney Smith, Rachal Fregin, Nelson and Jago all added baskets as well.
Superior then played the host, Rice Lake St. Joseph, and won 50-13. Coach Mitch Lindstrom said balanced scoring was the key to the win. Lindstrom had 20 points, followed by Jago with eight points. Johnstad, Nelson and Hansen all added six points and Fregin scored 4 points.
The team's final game of the day was played against undefeated Duluth East. Superior kept close but ended up losing by a of the score 22-19. Lindstrom had 13 points, Hansen had 4 points and Nelson added a basket for Superior.

Superior's season record now stands at 6-2. The team is off until January 6, when they travel .
