The victim of a fatal car crash in Douglas County is believed to be a Cumberland woman who was reported missing Sept. 22.

Hailey Anderson, 43, was last seen Sept. 16 leaving the casino in Turtle Lake, according to the Cumberland Police Department. She was supposed to be traveling to Hibbing, but never made it. Her mother reported that no one had heard from her since Sept. 16 and cell phone records showed no activity on the phone since 11:58 p.m. that day, according to a news release from Cumberland Police Chief Heather Wolfe .

Cell phone data showed her last known location was near South Range in Douglas County. The Douglas County Sheriff's Office checked the location on Sept. 24, but did not find Anderson or her vehicle.

On Sept. 27, the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office located Anderson’s vehicle near the edge of the Amnicon River. The vehicle had veered off U.S. Highway 53 and crashed into the river bank, according to the release. The driver was ejected from the vehicle and died. Authorities believe the driver is Anderson, but official notification is pending.

The crash is under investigation by the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office. An autopsy was scheduled for Tuesday, Sept. 28.
