Warm weather and clear skies greeted more than 200 visitors to Mark and Cora Liebaert's farm in Douglas County to celebrate Conservation Observation Day on Friday.

The Liebaerts were named the 2008 Conservation Farmer's of the Year for their efforts in actively farming with a commitment to conservation.

The enthusiastic crowd welcomed speakers from state and local government and departments as they spoke of the Liebaert's accomplishments and the commitment of government to conservation practices of family farms.

Douglas County Board Chairman Doug Finn told the Telegram, "This is an extremely significant recognition for the Liebaert's and for Douglas County as well. This will be a benefit to all of Douglas County in statewide meetings and planning".

In addition to the Conservation Day program, the Liebaert's were honored as a Century Farm, recognizing an active family farm with a 100-year history.
