Thursday marks the beginning of the 2016 heating season and the start of the Wisconsin Home Energy Assistance Program.

Wisconsin’s Home Energy Assistance Program helps qualifying households offset their home energy costs by receiving energy assistance grants. Benefits depend upon household size, income level and home energy costs. Households may also qualify for crisis assistance benefits, which can include purchase of home heating fuel, reconnection of utility service, and emergency furnace repair or replacement.

The Douglas County Department of Health and Human Services begins accepting applications Thursday for the 2016 Wisconsin Home Energy Assistance Program. Douglas County residents may pick up applications at the Douglas County Department of Health and Human Services, 1316 N. 14th St., Suite 400, or at Superior Water, Light and Power, 2915 Hill Ave. To have an application mailed to you or for information about the Wisconsin Home Energy Assistance Program, call 715-395-1651. Applications and program information can also be obtained on the Wisconsin Home Energy Assistance Program website at www.homeenergyplus.wi.gov .
