Elsie Mae Carlson, 96, of Gordon, passed away Sunday, Feb. 17, 2008, at Middle River Health and Rehabilitation Center in Hawthorne.

Elsie was born Jan. 3, 1912, in Menomonie to the late Ephraim and Augusta (Boerner) Meeds.

Elsie worked at The Old Oak Bar, St. Croix Cafe, and as assistant cook for the Gordon Elementary School. She also cleaned cabins with her best friend, Della Bosley.

Elsie loved her family and worked very hard, her children said, They grew up poor but they never knew it because of their mom.

Among those who survive and gratefully shared her life are her children, Wesley (Pauline) Carlson of Gordon, Christine (Ron) Cook of Gordon, Lila (Gene) Anderson of Neosho, Mo.; son-in-law, Gary Platteter of Duluth; 11 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; three great great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her daughter, Kelly Platteter, Sept. 11, 2005.

Celebration of Elsie's life will be held 11 a.m. Saturday at the Brown Funeral Home in Solon Springs, where visitation will begin at 10 a.m. The Rev. Ron Cook will officiate. Burial will be in Gordon Memorial Cemetery in Gordon.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Gordon-Wascott Ambulance, P.O. Box 68, Gordon, WI 54838 or the Gordon Fire Department, Gordon, WI 54838.
