Indoor mask use will be optional for staff and students who are fully vaccinated in the Superior School District beginning Monday, July 19.

In addition, staff and students will not need to wear masks outdoors. The Superior School Board discussed the revisions to the district's COVID-19 plan, which are based on updated guidelines from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, during its Monday, July 12 meeting.

The new mask guidelines will affect the entire district, including athletic practices and games and the last two weeks of secondary summer school. Students under age 12 are not yet eligible for the vaccine. Masks are still required for students riding the bus, regardless of vaccination status.

A decision on mask protocol for the 2021-2022 school year will be made closer to the start of school, District Administrator Amy Starzecki said.
