Edna I. (Call) Scott, 87, died Saturday, July 21, 2007, in her sleep at Lakeshore's Fountains Hospice Care Unit.

Edna was born Aug. 15, 1919, to Nettie (Rupprecht) and August I. Anderson in Browerville, Minn. She grew up with her sisters, Dorothea and Vera, on the family farm near Clarissa, Minn.

Due to hardships resulting from the Depression, in 1936 at the age of 17, Edna moved to Duluth to look for work. While she worked for a number of years at the lunch counter for Woolworth's in downtown Duluth, she took particular pleasure in fixing her girlfriends' hair in the evenings.

Edna met and began dating William C. Call in 1939. On Aug. 15, 1940, they exchanged vows that would begin a 22-year marriage.

After her divorce from Bill, Edna attended the Duluth School of Cosmetology and subsequently went to work for her sister-in-law Edith Call at the "Charm Beauty Salon" in Lakeside. After obtaining her manager's license, Edna and Marge Abramson started the "Carter Beauty Salon" in the downtown area of Duluth. In 1966, she struck out on her own, opening the "My Bonnie Beauty Salon" in Lakeside.

On Nov. 11, 1971, Edna married osteopathic physician Clarence M. "Scotty" Scott. In 1972 Edna sold the "My Bonnie" and Scotty retired from his medical practice. They became vagabonds living and traveling around the United States, Europe and the Holy Lands.

Scotty died on June 4, 1999. Edna spent the next several years attending church activities and lovingly enjoying time with her friends and her extended family of children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Edna was a happy, optimistic, thoughtful, caring woman who brought smiles and peace with her wherever she went. She loved her children and stepchildren and their families with all of her heart. She was one of those special people who always left you feeling good about yourself. We will miss her terribly but take comfort in knowing that she is now in the arms of her special love, her savior Jesus Christ.

Edna is survived by her sisters, Dorothea Nielsen and Vera Zousel of Buffalo Minn.; her daughter, JoAnn (Stan, deceased) Johnson and son William James Call of Duluth; stepsons, C. Malcolm (Eloise, deceased) Scott and Richard (Rosanne) Scott of Superior, Lance Scott, Eau Claire, and Ronald (Julie) Scott, Superior, as well as her granddaughters, Lanae (Carl) Gilberg and Robin (Dennis) Dagger, Duluth; her step grandchildren, Cindy (Brad) McDonnell, Wayzata, Minn., Kristin (John) McMutry, Excelsior, Minn., Erik (Paula) Scott, Maple Grove, Minn., Lisa (Paul) Buenger, Eau Claire and Andrea (Matt) Pollema, Milwaukee; 20 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Edna was preceded in death by her eldest step grandson, Mark (Sonia) Scott of Salt Lake City, Utah. Edna's family would like to give a special thank you to the staff at SMDC Hospice and Lakeshore's Assisted Living "The Shores," and their Hospice Care Unit, "The Fountains" for the tender and loving care that they provided our mother.
